KINGSTON, Jamaica – THE QUICK GALLOPER turns back the hands of time to the 10 starters in the 2021 Jamaica Derby to find out, where are they now.
FIRST – Calculus after winning the Derby at odds of 3-5 moved on to settle himself comfortably in the top grade where he is still remains competitive. Calculus has recorded two wins from seven starts in 2022. He was also the first runner-up to the 2021 Horse of the Year.
SECOND – Billy Whizz produced a brave effort to lose the Derby by a neck. Since the Derby, Billy Whizz has gone through his class conditions and is competitive in the highest grade.
THIRD – Further and Beyond went on to win the major races at the end of the 2021 season and was duly voted as the Horse of the Year. In 2022, Further and Beyond has not raced much, but is expected to return in the third quarter when the big money races come around.
FOURTH – Big Jule has not raced much since the Derby. He recently made a winning appearance to underline his undoubted class. Seems to be hampered by health issues.
FIFTH – Santorini, unfortunately, died on the race track.
SIXTH – Daddy Jones has never realized his full potential and is still making his way through his class conditions.
SEVENTH – Iannai Links has not been seen for a while.
EIGHTH – Regal and Royal is still hanging around.
NINTH – Positive ID has done nothing of consequence since his participation in the Derby.
TENTH – Moneyman is still hovering around.
