KINGSTON, Jamaica – Make Up Artist made a winning return after a long break of 266 days in the fourth event on Derby Day (August 6, 2022). That race was run over the five straight course for three-year-old and upwards horse at the Overnight Allowance level.
The task of Make Up Artist ridden by Anthony Thomas for trainer Jason DaCosta was made easier as three of the original eight entries Basilicus, Kay Boy and It’s A Boly were declared as late non-starters.
When the gates opened it was the speedy Capturemyship (Dick Cardenas) assuming the lead followed by Make Up Artist. The two separated themselves from the pack in a private duel.
Make Up Artist started to gain ground as Capturemyship showing grit was not backing off. The former got the advantage with Capturemyship rallying to be nipped by a nose. Artesia (Dane Dawkins) finished third.
Make Up Artist was winning for the seventh occasion from nine starts.
