KINGSTON, Jamaica – It was a gate-to-wire victory for the 1-2 favourite Lure of Lucy in the St Leger Day seventh – a three-year-old and upwards Overnight Allowance call at six furlongs.
Jockey Anthony Thomas left the starting stall in good order, with at first Rojorn Di Pilot (Reyan Lewis) next in line. Rojorn Di Pilot then tapered off with Generational (Shane Richardson) assuming the job of staying with Lure of Lucy.
The Jason DaCosta trainee gathered momentum while navigating the half-mile turn moving away by two lengths with fast splits of 22.4 seconds for the first two furlongs.
By the time the horses entered the straight for the final two furlongs, Lure of Lucy still held the advantage but by then Rojorn Di Pilot was back in the picture, and so too was The Good Witch (Dick Cardenas).
With a furlong to go, it was anybody’s race, but then the class and determination came to the fore, as the foreign bred Lure of Lucy stepped on the accelerator winning by 2 ¾ lengths. Rojorn Di Pilot was second and The Good Witch third.
