KINGSTON, Jamaica – Yes, the race must be run, that is a truism of horse racing. However, where three-year-old filly Atomica is concerned, truisms can be thrown through the window, as there are just no words, no thoughts, to describe the class and utter brilliance of Atomica.
Trained by Gary Subratie, owned by Oakridge Farms, bred by Karl Samuda with Dane Dawkins in the saddle, Atomica scorched the one mile of the fillies’ 1000 Guineas in a stakes record time of 1:37.0 without breaking a sweat. The splits were 24.4 x 47.3 x 1:11.2. The winning margin was all of twenty lengths.
Our Angel (Robert Halledeen) finished second with Silent Mission third.
From the gates opened Dawkins put Atomica in the lead and for the rest the gap increased with every stride made by this outstanding filly. Atomica was never challenged, yet she was still able to run the fastest time ever for a 1000 Guineas.
Atomica was a first Classic success for Dawkins and Samuda. For Oakridge Farms is was their first in the 1000 Guineas.

It is clearly obvious that this filly's strength is her high cruising speed. It is my hope that this filly is trained and conditioned to use that advantage to crippling effect in all her races to come. Horses with this type of high top end speed do not need to be throttled up and be taken out of their comfort zone by being restrained, even when going longer distances. To do that would be keeping her from fulfilling her full potential. Over to you trainer Gary Subratie !!!
Well said!
