KINGSTON, Jamaica – The first staging of the $3 million Overnight Allowance Chairman’s Plate produced a rollicking finishing involving stable friends Miniature Man and foreign-bred filly Lure Of Luck.
Competing over the two turns of nine furlongs and 25 yards, the Jason DaCosta-trained combatants gave it their all.
The Quick Galloper’s analysis published below is done in the order of finish.
FIRST – Miniature Man ridden by Reyan Lewis
This four-year-old chestnut gelding had difficulties after winning the 2000 Guineas last year. When he returned to competitive racing in mid 2022, Miniature Man found it difficult.
He finally got a win (six and a half furlongs) on October 3, thereby giving him fair consideration in the Chairman’s Plate with a fair chance of winning.
Reyan Lewis in the saddle rode a patient and then in the final two furlongs, he dug deep to thwart the persistency of Lure of Lucy.
The revival of form by Miniature Man is worthy of note as he has the potential of making his presence felt in the higher grades.
The future of Miniature Man will be watched carefully.
SECOND – Lure of Lure ridden by Omar Walker
Despite some third-place finishes, Lure of Lucy has not been at her productive best over the last three months. Her fighting second in the Chairman’s Plate signals a welcome return to form at a distance, which is just out of her reach. Dropping down in class, Lure of Lure will win in Overnight in quick time.
THIRD – Brinks ridden by Dane Dawkins
Brinks was highly touted before the start of the Chairman’s Plate but it was not to be for this three-year, as shortly after the gates opened he suffered massive interference.
It was primarily due to his talent and courage that Brinks was able to regroup to finish third. Brinks will have no issues moving on to the top grades.
FOURTH – Positive ID ridden by Jerome Innis
Through grit and determination, Positive ID has reached the Overnight grade. It was another noticeable effort by Positive ID, who will, given the right opposition score in the Overnight grouping.
FIFTH – Hover Craft ridden by Robert Halledeen
What else can be said or written about this aged warrior. At 12 years, Hover Craft continues to defy the age barrier, by always earning for his connections. More than likely, Hover Craft will be retired at the end of 2022.
SIXTH – Sweet Majesty ridden by Paul Francis
Tried her best while being prominent in the early stages but simply could not manage these. With time Sweet Majesty will probably earn a win in Overnight.
SEVENTH – Prince Marshall ridden by Youville Pinnock
Prince Marshall showed up in the first part of the Chairman’s Plate, before fading way behind the earning first six.
Demonstrated that he has the ability to win in the class probably at a shorter distance.
EIGHTH – D Head Cornerstone ridden by Raddesh Roman
Ran a disappointing race when much more was expected. D Head Cornerstone was racing in Overnight Allowance for the first occasion, with more time needed to assimilate into his new environment.
NINTH – Johncrowjeff ridden by Roger Hewitt
A new recruit at Overnight Allowance, Johncrowjeff has a lot to learn, which will only come with time.
TENTH – Sir John ridden by Javaniel Patterson
Sir John will probably have to go in high claiming to earn another win.
ELEVENTH – Perfect Brew ridden by Oneil Mullings
Perfect Brew developed late as one of the better three-year-olds. The expectations were high by the backers of Perfect Brew with jockey Oneil , Mullings in the saddle.
All hopes for Perfect Brew were dashed immediately after the start when he collided with Crimson, causing the jockey atop Crimson Anthony Thomas to fall.
Perfect Brew was subsequent placed last in the event.
TWELFTH – Crimson ridden by Anthony Thomas
Pre-race favourite Crimson was the victim of an unfortunate incident that ruined any chance he had of winning. Luckily, Anthony Thomas, who fell from Crimson was unscathed from the unfortunate incident.
CONCLUSION
The one-two finish by Miniature Man and Lure of Lucy provided the buffer needed by trainer Jason DaCosta in his quest to become champion trainer in his first full season.
