KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Labour Day Trophy got things underway at Caymanas Park moments ago and it was an upsetting beginning for punters especially those who banked 1-9 favourite Custer in their exotic wagers.
Custer (Christopher Mamdeen) was a no show as the 6-1 chance Armageddon turned out to be an easy winner of the five furlong straight three-year-old non-winners of four and $850,000 - $800,000 claiming event.
The win by Armageddon gave one-time top-notch apprentice – now jockey Odeen Edwards his first winner for the year. Armageddon who is trained by Rowan Mathie recorded a time of 1:00.0.
To make matters worse for holiday punters, second went to the longest shot on the board, Night Light at 25-1 with Talented Tony K at 4-1 third. Custer was fourth.
Little wonder the Exacta paid $3,765.
