KINGSTON, Jamaica - Trainer Gary Subratie was the star at the races at Caymanas Park today (September 6) as the second-generation conditioner saddled three winners on the 10-race programme.
Subratie’s included Classic aspirant Nipster who won the $930,000 Royal Dad Trophy feature over nine furlongs and 25 yards (1,820m).
Nipster, ridden by Robert Halledeen, came with a strong run in deep stretch against the inside rails to beat King Arthur (Anthony Thomas), who had picked up the lead at the top of the straight and looked strong in deep stretch, by a short head. Oneofakind (Omar Walker) and Double Crown (Dick Cardenas) also came with strong runs to finish in third and fourth places respectively in the Restricted Stakes even.
The final time for the event was a good 1:54.1.
Subratie’s other winners was also highlighted by a brilliant ride by Dane Nelson who steered Sentient to victory in the top-rated Non-Restricted Overnight Allowance, also over the circular course of nine furlongs and 25 yards.
Sentient surrounded rivals at the top of the lane, turned on the pressure in deep stretch and coasted home to win by 2 lengths in a time of 1:55.3. Summer Sun (Anthony Thomas) was second and Superluminal (Omar Walker) in third place.
Basilicus, under jockey Christopher Mamdeen was Subratie’s other winner on the day. Basilicus made one move to win the fifth race over four furlongs (800m) straight by 3 lengths in a time of 45.4.
Jockeys Omar Walker and Anthony Thomas were the pick of the riders with two winners each.
Walker won aboard Princess Kyra in the third race for trainer Edward Stanberry and Coppertone in the eighth race for trainer Richard Azan, while Thomas was successful atop Splendid Vision in the fourth race for trainer Marlon Anderson and Nevada in the seventh race for trainer Owen Sharpe.
