KINGSTON, Jamaica – Nipster under a well calculated ride from Linton Steadman created the mother of all upsets to win the 94th running of the 10-furlong Jamaica St Leger at odds of 31-1 a short while ago at Caymanas Park.

Second was the 1-2 favourite Wow Wow (Robert Halledeen) with Oneofakind (Dane Nelson) third.

For Steadman it was his second victory in the St Leger having piloted Bigdaddykool to victory in 2016.

For trainer Gary it was his first win in the St Leger. Subratie had the distinction of finishing one-two in the St Leger.

For owner/breeder Michael Bernard it was his first win in the St Leger and he also had the distinction of finishing first and second in the Classic event.

The winning time was 2:06.0 which is the fastest since 1996 when War Zone set the Stakes Record with a time of 2:05.2.

Steadman who was a late call to ride Nipster, was way behind the leaders in the two turn event which as expected was led by Another Affair (Jerome Innis) who also hails from the camp of Subratie.

The race started as a heavy downpour of rain hailed on the Caymanas Park complex.

Down the backstretch it was still Another Affair with Wow Wow (Robert Halledeen) and King Arthur (Anthony Thomas) following.

Halledeen brought Wow Wow closer as the three-furlong marker was reached. At this stage Nipster and Steadman where nowhere around.

Wow Wow took the lead and was obviously having difficulties getting the distance as Steadman brought Nipster with his winning run on the inside to achieve Classic glory.
