KINGSTON, Jamaica – Blue Vinyl enters the fray for the 2000 Guineas set for the first week in June as the now undisputed leader of the male three-year-old cohort following a smashing win in the 7 ½ furlong THE KINGSTON today (May 8) at Caymanas Park.
Ridden by Raddesh Roman and trained by Patrick “Wacky” Lynch, Blue Vinyl with the blinkers taken off after a poor effort two weeks ago found his true self with a scintillating performance putting away the cream of the three-year-old colts and gelding in stakes record time to boot of 1:32.4. This beat the old mark set last year by both Further and Beyond and Miniature Man of 1:34.1. Blue Vinyl recorded splits of 23.2 x 46.2 x 1:11.3, while the previous record holders had fractions of 24.1 x 47.3 x 1:12.2. Of note is that Blue Vinyl’s final time was just a fifth of a second slower than the time done by Atomica, 24 hours before in THE PORTMORE.
Blue Vinyl was positioned on the inside shortly after the gates opened with Roman watching as Emperorofthecats (Andre Martin) set the early pace with Brinks (Reyan Lewis) and Perfect Brew (Dick Cardenas) racing close by.
Emperorofthecats sped away while rounding the turn at the half-mile as Blue Vinyl kept gaining ground on the inside.
In the final two furlongs, Emperorofthecats had to be caught and that is what Blue Vinyl did with aplomb. Perfect Brew ran on for second with Supreme Song (Tevin Foster) doing the same to get third.
Of note is that the first two horses in THE KINGSTON and the fifth-placed Brinks were all sired by Bern Identity at the Paradise at Spring Village farm.
