KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Quick Galloper’s analysis for the race day of Sunday, March 19, 2023, is provided below.

THE BETTING

Following the dominance of the favoured horses on Saturday, March 18, 2023, it was much of the same in the ten races on Sunday, March 19.

The only spoiler on Sunday came unexpectedly in the ninth race when the leading rider Tevin Foster produced a peach of a ride to win on the Dennis Pryce-trained Unruly Boss at odds of 17-1, by far the longest winning odds over the 19-weekend races.

Separate from Unruly Boss at 17-1, the longest odds winner, actually winners were Oldkingcole, Rhythm Buzz, and Rainsville all coming in at odds of 2-1.

THE JOCKEYS

Among the reinsmen, Tevin Foster gave further indication of his 2023 intention with another two wins to extend his lead at the top of the jockeys’ pile to five. This season, Foster has brought home 23 winners, with his closest rival being Reyan Lewis with 18 wins. Defending champion Dane Dawkins has 17 wins.

Of interest is the position of three-time champion Anthony Thomas in position number six with 11 wins to his credit. Thomas based on his number of rides (74), has an 11 per cent winning average. This compares with a winning average of 21 per cent for Foster and 26 per cent for Lewis.

There are a lot of race days to come, and much may change.

THE TRAINERS

Trainer Dennis Pryce led the way with two winners, Zabratone and Unruly Boss, the latter winning the day’s feature, the Henry Jaghai Trophy.

Of the top three trainers on the current list in order, Jason DaCosta, Anthony Nunes, and Gary Subratie, only DaCosta was able to saddle a winner, Fly Messenger Fly, over the two days and 19 races on offer.
