Trainer Fined And Warned Off By Regulatory Body

Investigation – Poor Condition of Horses in Care of Trainer Shaun Williams

The First Instance Tribunal, delegatees of the Jamaica Racing Commission, on Monday, March 20, 2023 concluded an investigation into the poor condition of horses, which include: Chromatica, Lady Rahki, Lady Sookranie, Lady Chandani, and Lady Ramdularie, whilst in the care of Trainer Shaun Williams.

During the investigation, the Tribunal heard evidence from Mr. Shaun Williams, the then trainer of the horses in question, who represented himself, along with evidence from Commissions’ Senior Veterinarian, Dr. Sophia Ramlal and Veterinarian, Dr. Simone Johnally, and SVREL Veterinarian, Dr. Andrew Garvey.

After considering all the evidence, the Tribunal ruled that;

  • Trainer Shaun Williams pay a fine of one hundred thousand Dollars ($100,000.00) for the death of horses Lady Rahki and Lady Sookranie, and fifty thousand dollars ($50,000.00) for horses Lady Chandani and Lady Ramdulari who survived. A period of six (6) months was given for payment of fines. 
  • Williams be warned off for a period of three (3) years with immediate effect, for breach of rule 247A (iii) of the Jamaica Racing Commission Racing Rules.

  1. At least five of those horses where female why starve them to death or near death when they could have been put to better use would be interesting to get a detailed account as to what where when and why such happened

  2. He should be out of racing for life he should give them away i would put two out to by Mo masa and Aveenu Malcainu as an experiment because we are know that breeding a good horse is all about luck
