KINGSTON, Jamaica – Coming from way off the lead, Tomohawk ridden by Anthony Thomas and trained by Wayne DaCosta produced his typical late burst to land this year’s renewal of the nine furlongs and 25 yards Simply Magic Cup moments ago in the Caymanas Friday sixth race.

The event which featured three-year-olds non-winners of two saw Tomohawk making up ground leaving four-furlong marker as leaders Ajita (Roger Hewitt) and High Diplomacy (Javaniel Patterson) switched roles at the front.

Still not close to leaders, Thomas watched as Let Them Fly (Dick Cardenas) and SenCity (Dane Nelson) got into striking positions.

In the stretch drive the colours of Tomohawk could be seen moving through on the inside and then the three-year-old bay colt found space and struck the lead with Let Them Fly being the main competitor.

The strength of Tomohawk took him home to the cup victory by 1 ½ lengths over Let Him Fly, with High Diplomacy third.

The winning time was 1:56.0.

This was the first winner on the day for Thomas who moves back to lead Dane Nelson by six win in the jockeys’ championship.
