KINGSTON, Jamaica - Tocatbetheglory, installed as a 55/1 betting option and ridden by claiming apprentice Nicholas Hibbert, returned a whopping win dividend of $2844.00. He won the event in a time of 1:37.0 with accompanying split fractions of 25.0, 49.2, and 1:15.2.
Slamsilano, at odds of 5/1 ridden by female claiming rider Samantha Fletcher, finished second, Hijo Primero, the even-money favourite, finished third with Omar Walker up, and Romario Spencer closed the frame aboard Avenging Angel in the field of 12.
After heavy rainfall prior to the start of the previous race which resulted in the racing surface being deemed muddy, assistant trainer Alphanso Harris said he was even more convinced of victory as Tocatbetheglory loves the muddy conditions.
“Based on the race condition, only one horse in this race I thought had any chance of upstaging my horse and I had no knowledge of how well it was prepared for the race, and [thus] I felt one hundred per cent confident that I could win. I stepped up this horse’s prep to non-four and to non-winners of three [so that he] could [keep] the pace with them. I came back down and did my internal research and worked on the findings, and from that final step we were victorious,” shared Harris.
