Tevin Foster on Magical Mood
Tevin Foster on Magical Mood

THE JOCKEYS

Dane Nelson is not here. He is riding in Canada. His departure has opened the door for other pigskin professionals to come forward, lay their credentials and earn more.

The top riders at present are mainly linked to the big barn outfits. Champion trainer Anthony Nunes, since the absence of Nelson, has been mainly allotting his horses to Linton Steadman, Tevin Foster, Shane Ellis, sometimes Robert Halledeen, and sometimes Christopher Mamdeen.

Leading trainer Jason DaCosta is tied with jockeys Anthony Thomas, Phillip Parchment, Dick Cardenas, sometimes Jerome Innis, sometimes Abigail Able, and sometimes Matthew Bennett.

Trainer Gary Subratie, third place in the championship, plies his mounts among Halledeen, Foster, and others, including in recent times Paul Francis.

But which of the jockeys, if any, have stepped up? THE QUICK GALLOPER would like to suggest that Foster is making a compelling case at this stage of his career.

Words from in the mornings suggest that Foster is a dedicated individual who goes about his work with professionalism. Of late, Foster, who has suffered in the past from injuries, has also been delivering on race days.

He rode a double on the day, and THE QUICK GALLOPER has earmarked Foster’s performance on Magical Mood as one typical of his developing stature in the saddle.

Foster was patient on Magical Mood, as he watched the pacesetters strut their stuff. Turning for home he got closer and when he made his move, the young man was assured and confident. Showing good handling skills, Foster got Magical Mood running smoothly to win by half-a-length.

Let’s watch and see how the young man will grow and develop even further.

THE TRAINERS

A battle of huge proportions is well and truly on in the trainers’ championship.

Somehow, Jason DaCosta in approximately six months has reached the top of the championship ahead of reigning champion Anthony Nunes with the always present Gary Subratie in the third slot.

On the day, DaCosta racked up two quick winners, Fly Messenger Fly and I Am Fred, but Nunes’ response was strong and firm with two winners also, Big Paul and Magical Mood.

When the dust cleared and settled, Nunes with his two winners plus second-place finishes with Bern Identity and Sparkle Diamond and other smatterings had gained, based on preliminary checks, approximately $300,000 on DaCosta. This one is going to be close.

THE MILLIONAIRE PUNTER

It was a good start to the week for one punter, who collected $1,225,500.00 for being the sole winner in the Pick-4 exotic wager. CONGRATULATIONS.

THE HORSES

Nothing much to report on this front with the possible exception of foreigner I Am Fred. This Jason DaCosta trainee gave more than just a workmanlike performance, to increase his win tally to four from seven starts. He is now at the Overnight Allowance level and, all things being equal, I Am Fred should conquer his new frontier without much fuss.

Moving along, it should be noted that of the nine races on offer only two were for claimers. INTERESTING!

  1. Apprentice jockey Tevin Foster is improving indeed as shown by that ride on Magical Mood, but I wont shout 'Jockey' yet until he either provide similar or better this. He is not consistent. Anyway, the most impressive ride and an improve showing of ability was performed by Ms. Abigail Able in Monday's 2nd race. This, 'hands down' was her best riding display to date. All was perfectly executed, in a race that was quite eventful (even the Stewards penalized the wrong horse), she rode her race unperturbed. View this race again and again and even again, you'll be impressed every time.

  2. HEY HORACE ,VERY GOOD ASSESMENT OF THIS YOUNG RIDER,I'M CURIOUS HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN INVOLVED IN LOCAL RACING
