KINGSTON, Jamaica - After an unplaced finish in the Mouttet Mile (invitational) on December 3, 2022, the Philip Feanny -conditioned I’ve Got Magic returned down two classes to score in the Ahwhofah Sprint trophy on Sunday, December 11, 2022, at Caymanas Park.

I’ve Got Magic, a four-year-old American-bred bay colt, bred by Fast Anna – Lil Miss Richie, ran down horses to win the three-year-old and upwards Overnight Allowance contest by three-and-a-half lengths going away.

I’ve Got Magic triumphed in a time of 1:13.1, supported by splits of 23.0 x 47.1, ahead of Blue Vinyl and Money Monster.

“I know this horse [I’ve Got Magic] a bit; I have worked him in the mornings, and so that’s why I warmed him up before the running of the race so his blood could flow right,” champion jockey Anthony Thomas said in his post-race interview.

“The plan going into the race was to get a good break. Sometimes watching his [I’ve Got Magic] races, he was slow getting into stride and so getting a good break here was very important.”

“I got hindered leaving the five-furlong (1,000m), so I had to change paths for a better run. I got a clean run in deep stretch, and when I asked him to go he responded well and won,” Thomas said.

Thomas held I’ve Got Magic in mid-pack when the starter pressed the start button, as Last Lick (Chalrick Budhai) dashed into the early lead, holding the front end ahead of Sweet Majesty (Paul Francis), Blue Vinyl (Shane Ellis), and The Good Witch (Shavon Townsend).

Blue Vinyl challenged Last Lick for the lead entering the half-mile (800m) turn before pulling away for the lead and opening up on the field as I’ve Got Magic rounded horses.

Hugging the inside rails and cutting the turn entering the straight, I’ve Got Magic exploded in deep stretch and blew past Blue Vinyl inside the final furlong (200 meters) to win convincingly in the end.
