KINGSTON, Jamaica – In only her second start, I Am Di One put all doubts to rest with a captivating and thoroughly classical performance to win in glorious fashion the 45th running of the 1000 Guineas at Caymanas Park a short while ago. The Guineas was the 10th of eleven on Saturday card.
I Am Di One (Adore The Gold – It is I) broke well from the number two draw and unlike in her first race when she came from well off the pace, jockey Simon Husbands decided to go in front and apart from a brief challenge from Lady Blue (Omar Walker), I Am Di One was simply unbeatable.
Lady Blue was second with 74-1 chance Casual Drink third.
Winning rider Husbands said after the race: “It was easy, an easy win. This filly is special, very special and she will get two turns easily as well.”
While trainer Anthony Nunes said: “I told Simon, to ride here like he owned her, there were no instructions and the belief that he (Simon) had in her showed clearly. He rode a very good race.”
It was Nunes’ third win in the 1000 and his third winner on the day.
The final time was for a mile in the fillies only event was 1:40.1 with crushing splits of 22.4 x 45.1 x 1:10.1.
