KINGSTON, Jamaica - Champion Bubbler, a three-year-old American-bred bay filly, won her second-consecutive race in the $1.09-million War Zone Sprint Trophy over 5 ½ furlongs (1,100 metres) on Saturday, December 10, 2022, at Caymanas Park.

Owned by Lakeland Farms Limited and trained by Spencer Chung, Champion Bubbler came from behind to win going away by a length and three-quarters.

Bred by Tapiture out of the Sun King mare Countess Clare, Champion Bubbler won in a time of 1:07.2 after splits of 23.1 x 46.2.

Chung said that he was pleased with Champion Bubbler’s performance, as it was an improvement on his charge’s debut victory on August 20, 2022. Then Champion Bubbler also came from behind runners to win by ¾ length over the straight (1,000m) in a time of 59.4.

“Well, you always have to be pleased with a win because a win is always a win. She [Champion Bubbler] came on as an imported horse, so she is taking a bit to get acclimated to the country, and so I am giving her the time, and she is coming on nicely.

“Champion Bubbler is without a doubt a good horse, and hopefully she will improve into better things. My hope is for her to improve and go on to ‘A’ Class,” Chung told The Supreme Racing Guide.

Ridden by Reyan Lewis, Champion Bubbler sat just off the pace at the break in fourth place as Prncsshootingstar (Anthony Thomas) led the field into the half-mile (800m) turn ahead of Luksol (Robert Halledeen) and Talona (Youville Pinnock).

Leaving the three-furlong (600m) marker, Champion Bubbler, running the inside rails, slipped down into second place behind Prncsshootingstar before gaining the advantage entering the straight. Champion Bubbler battled well in the deep stretch to get home ahead of Luksol and KP Choice (Chalrick Budhai).
