THE BOMB EXPLODES – ATOMICA WINS THE 2022 JAMAICA DERBY

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Atomica, the only filly in the field of ten starters exploded to untold heights to etch her name forever in the annals of local racing with a devastating front running effort to crush rivals in the 102nd Jamaica Derby.

Trained by Gary Subratie, owned by Oakridge Farms, with Dane Dawkins in the saddle, Atomica completed the 12 furlongs in a time of 2:35.2 second with splits of 24.2 x 49.0 x 1:16.3 x 1:41.2.

For the Don Webhy led Oakridge Farms it was their first Derby victory. For Subratie, it was his second win in the Derby having trained Calculus to victory last year. For jockey Dawkins, it was his first Derby winner and his second Classic victory.

Second behind Atomica was Brinks (Reyan Lewis), with Blue Vinyl third. The winning margins were 9 ½ lengths by ¾ .

Atomica, a chestnut filly by Nuclear Wayne out of Honkeytonkville was bred by Karl Samuda.
