KINGSTON, Jamaica – The recent revival of long-time jockey Phillip “Parchy” Parchment continued apace moments ago when he steered home Summer Sun for trainer Wayne DaCosta in the third race of 10 on the mid-week racing programme at Caymanas Park.
The race was the feature on the card, the Simply Magic Cup.
Parchment had to use all his strength on Summer Sun to catch race leader Roy Rogers (Raddesh Roman) and then to withstand the late surge of Tricky One (Christopher Mamdeen) who eventually finished second in the Restricted Allowance 11 for three-year-olds non-winners of two and imported maidens.
Summer Sun won at odds of 4-5 while Tricky One went off at 4-1. Roy Rogers was third as a 30-1 chance.
The winner posted a time of 1:58.4 for the trip of nine furlongs and 25 yards.
