KINGSTON, Jamaica – It was expected but as all punters know the race has to be run and Stranger Danger running without the blinkers for the first and running his longer trip to date, turned out to be an easy winner of the Open Allowance offering at Caymanas Park just about five minutes ago.
Racing against four rivals after stablemate Hover Craft was declared a late non-starter, Stranger Danger was pushed down the backstretch as Houdini’s Magic also wanted to lead.
Leaving the half mile, Omar Walker riding Stranger Danger for the first time asked the gelding to move and that he did to enter the straight with a commanding lead after which the jockey just kept a straight course, easing down in the final ½ a furlong.
Drummer Boy went by Houdini’s Magic late in the lane to get second thereby giving trainer Wayne DaCosta the one-two in the event.
The winning time for a mile was 1:38.0 behind splits of 24.1 x 46.3 x 1:11.2.
It is now five wins from five starts for the American bred dark bay gelding.
Walker was particularly pleased with the win saying: “I have known this horse from he was a baby and I know how good he is. I kept on looking down on him in the straight as he wasn’t changing his lead, so I just kept him going. Stranger Danger is a really good horse.”
