KINGSTON, Jamaica - A mouth-watering three-year-old and upwards Overnight Allowance contest going 5 1/2 furlongs (1,100m) for the George HoSang Trophy is set to bring the curtains down on Sunday’s ten-race card at Caymanas Park.

The 12-horse field is lined with talented sprinters and middle-distance runners who will vie for the lion’s share of a $1.14-million purse.

Below is the analysis.

  1. EMPEROROFTHECATS - Enjoyed good form last season, winning five of his 11 races, complemented by one second- and three third-place finishes. Out for the first time this season and while winning this is not beyond him, he will be allowing weight to some of his quicker rivals so it is left to be seen how Emperorofthecats goes here. Note, Emperorofthecats races without the visor.
  1. SUPER DUPER is out for her seasonal bow. Didn’t do much in 11 starts last season, only winning a solitary race, with one second- and three third-place finishes. However, Super Duper has been steadily prepared for this re-entry and should have no problems with the distance. Needs to get off with a good start to be effective.
  1. NUCLEAR NOON - One win and three third-place finishes in six outings last year. Already started the year on a good note, placing fourth behind stablemate Curlin’s Affair over the five-furlong (1,000m) straight course. Continues to move well at exercise and will certainly be thereabouts at the end.
  1. RING CHARMER - Ran some decent races last year and has already registered a blowout run for this season, placing sixth behind Lure of Lucy in the Fan Appreciation Day Trophy on January 2 over two turns (1,820m). Was clearly out of her depth on that occasion, and though reverting to sprinting, should find a few going better.
  1. RAS EMANUEL - Veteran campaigner who is certainly proving that he has much left in the tank. Ended last year on a winning note, topping a high-claimers field over the five-straight galloping course. Steps back up on this occasion and will need to do everything right if he is to topple his fleet-footed rivals.
  1. GENERATIONAL - No real form to recommend and, as such, is again expected to be left behind.
  1. HELICOPTER - Has been missing from action since July last year. Did run some good races prior to the break and though freshened, might need the run to find his rhythm.
  1. THE GOOD WITCH - Still searching for her first win on local soil. Briefly entered the fray in the Allan E “Billy” Williams Feature over 7 furlongs (1,400m) on January 21. Prior to that, showed marked improvement when placing second behind Emperorofthecats over the 5-straight course on December 18 to end the year on high, however, she failed to replicate that performance over the same distance on her January 7 season opener. Reverts to sprinting where she is again expected to make a bold bid but whether or not it will be good enough to break her drought on local soil is left to be seen.
  1. TAURUS BOY - Started the year much like he ended it down the track in a competitive field. Still, Taurus Boy can run with these and only needs to be focused to put on a credible showing, if only for a minor placing.
  1. EAGLE ONE - Had a topsy-turvy 2022 campaign. This hot and cold performer, comes up against some talented performers but back down in class now and can revive his career with another good effort.
  1. CHARMIN BEAUTY - Winner in the lower class on last. Steps up for the first time and will need time to catch the pace here.
  1. YELLOWSTONE - Won first time out going 5 1/2 furlongs on January 15. Another one that steps up for the first time but Yellowstone’s potential should not be understated as while he faces tougher opposition here, he is expected to give a good account of himself.
