KINGSTON, Jamaica – Sentient sealed his position in the 2000 Guineas on Sunday April 14 when he gave a blistering performance to win the Monday Morning Trophy feature event just moments ago in the seventh race at Caymanas Park.
The Monday Morning Trophy featured horses at the Restricted Allowance level non-winners of two plus imported maiden and was run over seven furlongs.
With the bustling Dane Nelson in the saddle, Sentient was kept off the pace set by Sweet Like Sugar (Trevor Simpson) before striking on the inside rails from about a furlong and a half out.
Sentient came home three and a half lengths ahead of the 4 -5 favourite Don Almighty (Anthony Thomas) with Sweet Like Sugar holding for the third position.
The final time for seven furlongs was an eye-catching 1:25.1.
After the win by Sentient, trainer Gary Subratie stated he was looking for a good run in the 2000 Guineas.
"Sentient has done everything we have asked of him and he is coming a long real nice at the right time.
"Futher, I believe that Sentient is going to do even better going around two turns, but for that we have to wait and see. I expect a capital effort from Sentient in the one mile 2000 Guineas," the trainer said.
