KINGSTON, Jamaica – Run Thatcher Run returned to the track today just seven days after making his seasonal bow last Saturday as his trainer Wayne DaCosta moved to prepare him for the 2000 Guineas on April 14 after some injury concerns.
This time the chestnut colt by Fearless Vision – Ahwhofah racing for the first time at the Overnight Allowance level over seven and a half furlongs had to pull out all the stops to win what was the tenth race of 10 on the Saturday card by a neck.
Run Thatcher had to fight for his life to maintain the winning start to his career having now raced four times and winning four times.
Regular rider Omar Walker kept Run Thatcher Run off the pace but moved down with three furlongs to go tracked very closely by Saratoga Sight. In a bang-up duel in the first part of the straight, Run Thatcher was able to pull away from Saratoga Sight yet he still had to deal with the fast finishing Master of Hall on the inside rails and finally got home for the victory by a neck.
Master of Hall Was second with Saratoga Sight third.
The winning time for 7 ½ furlong was 1:32.2 with splits of 23.3 x 46.3 x 1:11.1.
After the victory DaCosta said: “I am happy, again he (Run Thatcher Run) showed us that with his class he wants to fight and boy did he have to fight today. A tough, rugged and determined run by Run Thatcher Run.”
