KINGSTON, Jamaica – There were ten races on Saturday, September 24, 2022. It was a rainy day, with the horses racing on a sloppy track.
RACE ONE – After an undignified career of 14 starts with only a third-place finish to remember, this foreigner was placed in claiming ($400,000), at six furlongs winning handily. Interestingly, the winning jockey was champion Anthony Thomas who is now getting more rides from trainer Anthony Thomas while still being firmly attached to leading trainer Jason DaCosta.
RACE TWO – It was a premier performance by Awesome Anthony in a two-year-old contest (five furlongs round). The Soul Warrior – Antoinette chestnut colt trained by Patrick Taylor with the almost forgotten Oshane Nugent holding the reins. Watch the progress of Awesome Anthony.
RACE THREE – This one was easy pickings for Ajita, trainer Dale Murphy and jockey Dane Dawkins.
RACE FOUR – Claiming king Papa Albert continued his relentless winning career scoring win number 18 from 61 starts. Little won this nine-year-old is one of the most claimed horses in racing.
RACE FIVE – Racing over what has become a rare distance at Caymanas Park, nine furlongs, foreigner Real Boss got the opportunity to stretch his legs, winning handily guided by Shane Ellis for trainer Spencer Chung. This race again proved the excellence of Ellis over the longer distances.
RACE SIX – The three-year-old barn sale of especially his three-year-olds with Bugatti. Bugatti was a comfortable winner and was dutifully claimer for $1 million.
RACE SEVEN – Wright In Flight racing over the longer distance of nine furlongs and 25 yards, earned her second win from 24 with an easy spin around the two turns. Win number nine this season for trainer Michael Marlowe and number four for lightweight apprentice Ramon Nepare.
RACE EIGHT – Jockey Shane Ellis was at his imperious best on Calculus in the 10-furlong Menudo Trophy event. It was another firm display by last year’s Derby going into, the Gold Cup (October), the Jamaica Cup (November and the Mouttet Mile (December).
RACE NINE – A dramatic end to this three-year-old, one–mile contest as first by the post-Traditional Lady (Tevin Foster) was disqualified by the race day stewards. Second by the line, Don Vincenzo with Reyan Lewis aboard for trainer Spencer Chung.
RACE TEN – Congratulations to the connections of Sweetman, trainer Oneil ‘Sweetyman’ Markland, and jockey Nicholas Hibbert. It was a plucky win by Sweetman.
