THE TRACK – NEW WATER TRUCKS

After the re-sanding and re-grading processes last week, the race track at Caymanas Park seems to have passed all the scrutiny tests. The give according to most of the jockey was good although the sand was flying everywhere.

The track will need time to settle but overall, it is more than a passing grade for the promoting company.

So, the horses and jockeys had a new surface to race on and there were only two major upsets Stormy Lady in the first at 18-1 and then Miniature Man at 27-1.

Good also to see the new water truck at work

 THE TRAINERS

Jason DaCosta scored a two-timer with Ianzha Links and Miniature Man and considering that he has been training in Jamaica for just about three weeks, the young man must be congratulated for a job well done.

DaCosta has been able to inherit nearly all the owners from his father’s time, which has to be seen as a strong show of good faith. Now, Jason has started the work and it is obvious he understands what he is doing and should be supported.

 THE JOCKEYS

It was another day when the two co-champion jockeys Anthony Thomas and Dane Nelson dominated, the former with a three-timer and the latter with a double. Nelson was particularly good on Iamacitizen who he steered through traffic on the inside to score while Thomas’s effort on Miniature Man was another example of his growing status among the colony of reinsmen.

Between the two they had a total of five winners which is a 50 per cent ratio for the 10 races run on the day.

THE HORSES/HORSES TO WATCH

Probably the commanding performance on the 10-race programme belonged to foreigner Excessive Force who was dominant in winning the feature Aston Commock Memorial Cup. This was the Philip Feanny’s trained four-year-old chestnut colt’s third victory. Excessive Force has now reached the Overnight Allowance level which he should deal with easily.

Horses to watch are Awesome Liz who finished second behind Miniature Man in only her second run on local soil.

Watch also Daddy Jones who finished third behind Miniature Man and Awesome Liz. He is still green and with time will make his mark.
