KINGSTON, Jamaica – Now there is absolutely no doubt. This horse by the name of Mahogany is from the top draw, the very top.

In a display of ruthlessness, Mahogany, a three-year-old chestnut colt by Sensational Slam – Mete-Orite trained by Ian Parsard and ridden by Dane Dawkins completely demolished a field made-up mainly of foreigners winning by an expanding 6 ½ lengths in a fast time of 1:31.2 for 7 ½ furlongs. The race won by Mahogany came in a Restricted Stakes for three-year-olds and upwards.

When the starter let them go, Sir Alton was a touch slowly out but Omar Walker on board pushed him through on the rails. Sir Alton was quickly joined by Mahogany but after three furlongs were completed, Mahogany took over and it was a struggle thereafter for the five other runners in the contest.

Mahogany was comfortable while recording a split clocking of 1:10.0 for six furlongs. The final splits were 23.3 x 45.4 x 1:10.0.

A tired and flagging Sir Alton was second with Uncle Polly third. The 3-5 odds-on favourite Crafty and Ready was a complete no-show in the event.

Mahogany closed a spanking triple for trainer Parsard.

Mahogany was bred by Clovis Metcalfe.

  1. It seems that ‘Mahogany’ is a classy colt from the top draw. Considering that he is from a freshman sire ‘Sensational Slam’ stabled at HAM Stables Limited it might be timely for ‘Quick Gallop’ and the ‘Supreme Racing Guide’ to revisit the horse farms as the breeding season commenced on Saturday the 15th instant. HAM Stables has on offer some exciting new Stallion prospects by Medaglia D’ORO, Grand Slam / Gone West, Candy Ride, Tiger Heart, Successful Appeal and Bernardini to add to the classic producer, Soul Warrior.
The above aside, I cant help but notice a new stallion by the name of ‘Resurgence’stabled at Rising Star Farm. This stallion was purchased as a yearling for for usd1.35 million at the 2011 Keeneland yearling sale. He is by Awesome Again out of the Unbridled mare, Legs Lawlor which herself was purchased for usd2.40 million at the 2003 Keeneland sale. This seems an exciting prospect but readers of your publication would surely like to know the racing record of Resurgence. Additionlly, considering that he is 11 years old, could you say if he served in the USA or any other location prior to coming to Jamaica?
Finally, I await reports from your farm visits comprising information such as breeding of the stallion prospects, their race records and average / comparative earning index and if going forward these stallions are expected to improve the local broodmares progenies.
