MAHOGANY AT HIS AWESOME BEST IN CLOVIS METCALFE CUP

Mahogany - Dane Dawkins
Mahogany - Dane Dawkins
KINGSTON, Jamaica – In a performance that confirmed his status as the top-rated horse in the land at this time, Mahogany (Dane Dawkins) decimated most of the best horses in training in the 7 ½ furlong Clovis Metcalfe Cup. That cup race was for horses at the Open Allowance level.
Mahogany trained by Ian Parsard, was held by Dawkins as Billy Whizz (Romario Spencer) set the early splits with Further and Beyond (Tevin Foster) racing behind.
Dawkins decided that enough was enough with about three and a half furlongs to go in the event, as he pushed Mahogany through to take the advantage.
Entering the lane, Dawkins peeked behind and saw no challengers. They went on to win by 10 ½ lengths, in a fast clocking of 1:30.2, one second off the track record set by Sky Train (98 lb) in 1983.
