KINGSTON, Jamaica – It was most fitting that the trainer of the wonderful filly Thornbird who won the Jamaica Derby in 1984, should win the 28th running of the race named in honour of his great horse, the Thornbird Stakes for fillies only run over seven furlongs just minutes ago at Caymanas Park.
Lady Blue, bred and owned by Carlton Watson and ridden by Omar Walker stayed with the early leaders for most of the way before going clear and pulling away in the stretch drive to record a good 1:26.0 for the seven furlongs of the race.
Lady Blue was the second winner on the day for both DaCosta and Walker.
Princess Ava coming from behind was second with Princess Lauren third.
The favourite at 4-5, Corazon was fourth.
