KINGSTON, Jamaica – In probably his best effort since winning the Jamaica Derby last year October, King Arthur allowing rivals lumps of weight doggedly held at bay all six rivals in the Menudo Trophy which was the Caymanas Saturday ninth.

The Menudo Trophy was contested by horses (three-year-old and upwards) in the Open Allowance/Graded Stakes category venturing the two turns of 10 furlongs.

When the seven starters were sent on their way, King Arthur (Anthony Thomas) was among the leading group as Eroy (Oshane Nugent) set the early splits.

Eroy took the field to the backstretch followed by King Arthur and Double Crown (Dick Cardenas), with Calculus the winner of this year’s Derby a way behind.

Thomas pushed the Jason DaCosta trainee to the lead as Double Crown provided resistance but King Arthur was in his ackee and went further ahead as Crimson (Robert Halledeen) emerged as the main challenger.

The tenacious King Arthur was not stopping today as Crimson and Robert Halledeen tried their best on the inside rails but to no avail, as King Arthur strongly held his gallop to win by three parts of a length in a noticeable time of 2:07.4. Crimson finished second with the old stager Hover Craft also trained by DaCosta coming in third.

This was King Arthur fifth victory in 2021.
