Horse urine, blood samples stolen from Louisiana racetrack

LOUISANNA

BOSSIER CITY, La. (AP) — Somebody stole about three dozen samples of horse urine and blood from a Louisiana racetrack.
Bossier (BOH-zher) City spokeswoman Traci Landry says nothing else was stolen during a break-in discovered Jan. 12 at Harrah's Louisiana Downs Casino and Racetrack.
A police news release Wednesday said the monetary value of the samples is minimal but the information lost "could cause the loss of tens of thousands of dollars to the business."
The theft was discovered at the start of the track's second week of quarterhorse racing. The track's quarterhorse season opened Jan. 5, and has been running Saturday through Tuesday.
The head of the Louisiana State Racing Commission did not immediately return calls Thursday from The Associated Press to ask about the theft, including how it could lead to such losses.
