KINGSTON, Jamaica - Three-year-old American-bred dark bay/brown filly Madelyn’s Sunshine continued to demonstrate improved form on local soil after another impressive win in a Restricted Stakes event for imported three-year-old and upwards (non-winners of three) and native-bred three-year-olds and native-bred four-year-olds (non-winners of four) over five furlongs (1,000m) round on Saturday, September 10, 2022.
Trained by Jason DaCosta and well ridden by Anthony Thomas, Madelyn’s Sunshine (Joe’s Son Joey – Madelyn’s Finest) led from the first jump in a dominating 3-½ win in a time of 59.3 to register her third win from four career starts.
“She [Madelyn’s Sunshine] was training well coming into the race, so we were looking for a good run from her. She delivered and we are happy with the performance and the progress she has been showing.
“Madelyn’s Sunshine is in Overnight Allowance company now and so there is where we will go next with her,” DaCosta said.
Madelyn’s Sunshine, who was coming off a two-month layoff, didn’t show any signs of distress and quickly assumed the lead at the off. She was joined by Yellowstone (Dick Cardenas) going into the half-mile (800m) but Madelyn’s Sunshine began to draw away approaching the distance, while still under a tight hold.
Entering the lane with no real challengers to test her top-end speed, Madelyn’s Sunshine cruised home for win number three from four career starts. Power Ranking, under leading rider Dane Dawkins, came through for second place, with Luksol (Jerome Innis) third.
