KINGSTON, Jamaica – In a race he was expected to win neck and crop, Drummer Boy ridden by Omar Walker obliged in the first race as the 10-race programme at Caymanas Park got underway a short while ago, but he had to work harder that originally planned.
Drummer Boy won the optional claiming, non-winners of four (three-year-olds) beating Urban Principal and Reigning King as the 1-9 odds on favourite.
Drummer Boy clocked a slow 1:26.3 for the distance of the race, seven furlongs.
The win by Drummer Boy gave a timely boost to champion trainer Wayne DaCosta who has been having difficulties finding the winners’ enclosure this season.
