KINGSTON, Jamaica – It hasn’t taken long for former champion Dick Cardenas to firmly establish himself once again on the local track after returning to the saddle last Saturday.

Cardenas was at his pigskin best aboard the Ian Parsard trained Step In Faith in the day’s seventh - a maiden condition offering for fillies only at a distance of six furlongs.

The Panamanian had Step In Faith with the early leaders when the gates opened but coming around the half-mile turn, the duo had traffic problems forcing Cardenas to pull back as Fascination (Youville Pinnock) made use of the situation by scooting away on the lead.

Cardenas had to take Step In Faith on the wide outside still well behind the leader. Step In Faith then responded to the calling of Cardenas and produced a strong burst to get up and win by 1 ½ lengths over a fading Fascination. Miss Hillington (Kiaman McGregor) was third.

The result of the race must have provided some extra joy for Parsard, as Step In Faith was the first winner for his sire, Bern Identity.
