KINGSTON, Jamaica – In a race of dramatic proportions, all the hype and anxiety promoted for the first running of THE KINGSTON came to fruition in the final furlong of the 7 ½ furlong event for three-year-old colts and geldings.

In a finish for the ages, Further and Beyond and Miniature Man locked horns from a furlong out and when the winning post arrived neither human eyes nor digital technology could not separate the two – the result of THE KINGSTON – a dead heat.

Further and Beyond is trained by Anthony Nunes and was ridden by Dane Nelson while Miniature Man is trained by Jason DaCosta and was ridden by Dick Cardenas. Further and Beyond was winning for the fourth time in a row (second this year) while Miniature Man was experiencing his second visit to the winners’ enclosure this season and the third in his career.

When the gates opened, Regnant (Shane Ellis) went to lead followed by Regal and Royal (Tevin Foster), Billy Whizz (Anthony Thomas) and Further and Beyond.

The order remained the same until Further and Beyond and Nelson decided to take over. At this stage Cardenas and Miniature Man was in seventh position six seven to nine lengths behind the leaders.

Further and Beyond as is customary started to dilly dally on the lead as Miniature Man now on the wide outside started to gobble up the real estate.

In a driving finish worthy of any such a race, the two could not be separated in the end. Regal and Royal running the race of his life finished third at 99-1.

Miniature Man provided Cardenas with his third winner on the day while it was the seventh for DaCosta.
