KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Labour Day Trophy is one of two trophy races scheduled on tomorrow’s (May 23), Labour Day card at Caymanas Park.
The Labour Day Trophy sees three-year-olds non-winners of four and claimers ($850,000 - $800,000) contesting over a distance of five furlongs straight.
Quickgallop.com offers readers an analysis of the six starters in this year’s running of the Labour Day Trophy in the order of their draws.
Western Wheels – has been progressing nicely after the releasing the maiden tag on February 23. Western Wheels now faces some big dudes here and is going to find it difficult to win.
Custer – Lightly weighted speedster whose two wins to date have come over the straight course. Rounding into some good form and with the leading rider, apprentice Christopher Mamdeen in the saddle to take off even more weight, Custer is tailor made to win this one.
Mr Pantheon – Has raced over the straight course four times of his last five races. Mr Pantheon is a lover of the straight but has no form at present. Can pull off an upset though.
Night Light – Literally a drop-in class for Night Light who will have to put every hoof right to get home in this trophy event.
Talented Tony K – Has been showing relatively good form in his last two outings but is now eight-years-old and may just find the youngsters a bit difficult to handle. Yet, Talented Tony K is known for his speed and will have to be caught. Note Talented Tony K comes in with a claiming tag.
Armageddon – Enters with a claiming tag and the blinkers on. Armageddon has the coveted outside draw but even this won’t make it easier for him.
Expect a close race with the nod given to the three-year-old, Custer.
