KINGSTON, Jamaica – After having to deal with several health-related issues in the early part of his career, Curlin’s Affair exhibited his true worth with a facile victory in the Caymanas Saturday fourth. This was the four-year-old chestnut colt by Perfect Curlin – Nuclear Affair third consecutive win.
That third victory in a row came in a four-year-old and upwards (non-winners of four) call and a non-three for imported horses at 9 furlongs and 25 yards.
When the starter pressed the go button, jockey Robert Halledeen atop Curlin’s Affair went into the first turn just behind early leader Daddy Jones (Dane Nelson).
Along the backstretch, Daddy Jones carried the field with Curlin’s Affair tucked neatly behind. Classical Orb (Anthony Thomas) started to move close so too Santorini (Tevin Foster).
Rounding the second turn, Daddy Jones continued to lead as Classical Orb surged closer as did T Brady (Chris Mamdeen).
When the horses entered the straight for the final two furlongs Curlin’s Affair was the closest to the leader and after that, the class of the four-year-old was brought to bear, winning by 4 ½ lengths.
Classical Orb finished second and Santorini third. Curlin's Affair provided his trainer Anthony Nunes with his second win on the day.
