Chance ride produces winner for veteran jockey Paul Francis in 6th race

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Veteran jockey Paul Francis made full use of a chance ride on the Anthony Nunes trained Splendid Vision to win the sixth race on the Saturday card at Caymanas Park.

Francis was able to mount up on Splendid Vision after it was announced that apprentice Reyan Lewis would not be riding on the day.

Splendid Vision won an Optional Claiming event for three-year-olds and upwards - non-winners of three at a claiming price of $450,000 - $400,000.

It was an intense battle between Splendid Vision (1-1) and Smokey Topaz (Oshane Nugent – 4-1) both running on the inside rails over the last two furlongs of the five straight contest. But Francis was at his powerful best as he pushed Splendid Vision to victory.

Smokey Topaz was second with JamalJames (Kiaman McGregor – 13-1) earning the third spot.

Ten claims for submitted for Splendid Vision with trainer Nicholas Smith winning the claim for owner Fitzroy Davidson.
