KINGSTON, Jamaica - Trainer Ian Parsard said that his charge Brinks is more than capable to make his presence felt in the 102nd running of the $7.5-million Jamaica Derby Classic on Saturday, August 6, 2022.
The Jamaica Derby, the third and final jewel in the Triple Crown series of races, is sponsored by BetMakers Technology Group and will run over 12 furlongs (2,400).
Brinks finished second behind Blue Vinyl in June’s 2000 Guineas and third following Blue Vinyl and Atomica in the Jamaica St Leger last month.
“His performances have been good. I mean, he placed in both Classics and I really can’t complain. Brinks has been beaten by a good colt in the 2000 Guineas and the colt and filly (Atomica) beat him in the St Leger but I think he ran very encouraging in the St Leger and so I decided to give him a shot in the Derby, after all the Derby is the most prestigious event in local racing,” Parsard said.
Parsard said that his charge is working well for Derby and with the distance not an issue, Brinks should once again be in the running.
“So far Brinks is very well and training very well for the race. I think he will run a good race. He does have two good horses to beat and they are the real class horses in the race, which are Atomica and Blue Vinyl.
“But you know it is horse racing and we just have to bring him as best as we can and hope for a good trip and for good luck,” Parsard said.
