KINGSTON, Jamaica – Installed as the 2-5 favourite in the Caymanas Saturday second, Baton Rouge duly obliged but only just in the five-furlong straight event for three-year-old maidens.

Baton Rouge, a bay colt by Natural Selection – Little Wasp racing for the first time for trainer Jason DaCosta with Anthony Thomas aboard, went straight to the lead while moving across from the four draw to the outside rails.

Galloping resolutely, Baton Rogue held a handy advantage when the horses reached the main track proper but now a challenger had emerged in the form of another first timer Simba The Lion (Robert Halledeen).

Baton Rouge, showing his greenness then started to drift back to the middle of the race track but dug deep to win by a neck over Simba The Lion with another debutante Tiz Dancer (Omar Walker) third.

The winning time was 1:00.2.
