A race where the locals meet the foreigners

KINGSTON, Jamaica - The first event for three-year-old non-winners of two races in 2022 for local horses and maiden foreigners will unfold on Saturday, January 15, 2022, at Caymanas Park.

Listed at the third of ten races on the day this 6-furlong contest has attracted nine starters four of which are foreigners; Lord of Ekati, Wowza, Luksol, and first-timer Talona.

Lord of Ekati and Wowza can be safely discarded based on past performances, while Luksol is a known speedster, who will set the early fractions and then shut off. Talona is an unknown but reports from morning exercise suggest that this imported filly is not ready as yet to give of her best.

The five local horses are Phoenix Risen and Babylike trained by Philip Feanny; Atomica by Gary Subratie; Power of Faith by Ian Parsard and Fly Messenger Fly by Jason DaCosta.

Phoenix Risen (Traditional – Impetus) has raced five times with one win to his credit. Phoenix Risen was beaten by Babylike when last at the track 28 days ago and with no major shift in the handicaps, that trend should continue on Saturday.

Babylike (Savoy Stomp – Ladylike) has one tick in her victory column from four starts and races with the cheekpieces on for the first time. Even with this new piece of equipment Babylike is not expected to win but more than likely she will place.

Atomica (Nuclear Wayne – Honeytonkville) was victorious in her first start on December 11 of last year. Then going five furlongs round, this filly was slowly out of her starting stall, and then came the noticeable acceleration in the straight. Atomica has been working well coming into this contest with a recent gallop of 1:14.3 last Sunday morning when defeating SenCity. She is fit and ready to go plus her barn is on fire at the moment.

Power of Faith (Key To Power – Yield to Faith) won impressively on debut going four furlongs straight. For Saturday’s outing Power of Faith will race with first-time Lasix, and comes into this his second race well prepared but moves up in distance from four furlongs to six and that is the only negative consideration to a possible winning effort.

The final local bred is Fly Messenger Fly who cannot handle these.

THE QUICK GALLOPER’S top three are Atomica, Power of Faith, and Luksol with the choice being Atomica.
