KINGSTON, Jamaica – The long-awaited return to competitive racing of Goliath The Great brought victory number two from three starts but the grey colt by Midnight Hawk out of Luminous Trieste had to work harder than expected for this third victory.
Goliath The Great trained by Robert Pearson with Dick Cardenas aboard earned his success in a three-year-old (non-two) offering coming down the five-straight course with the blinkers fitted by his trainer.
It took little time after the gates opened for Goliath The Great to assume control of this contest. He led without hindrance while blazing a first-quarter split of 22.4.
In the final furlong, Goliath The Great came under sustained pressure from Lacrimae (Jordan Barrett) and A Gift From Ben, but Cardenas was able to keep his mount going winning by a short head. Lacrimae was second and A Gift From Ben third. The final time was 1:01.0.
