KINGSTON, Jamaica – Acero starting out at odds of 2-5 was just able to hold off the late surge of stable companion Magical Mood (91-) to land victory in the Caymanas Saturday eighth. This event was for three-year-old non-winners of two travelling down the five-straight course.

Acero trained by Anthony Nunes with Dane Nelson holding the reins, was with the early leaders and when they crossed over to the main track drew away from rivals was a quick surge.

In the final half-a-furlong, Acero started to shorten as Magical Mood (Richard Reid) sprouted wings but failed by a short head to catch her stablemate.  Nunes completed a one-two-three finish as Alimony (Reyan Lewis) was third.

The win by Acero was the second on the day for both Nelson and Nunes.
