KINGSTON, Jamaica – Aava Jaelyn slammed the door on many bettors in the Reggae 6 wager when she finished as the upset winner of the last leg of the betting option (race six) at odds of 23-1. This event was Division 2 of a three-year-old maiden contest at six furlongs.
The 6-5 favourite in the betting Eddietwentynine set the fractions from the start followed by Melmich (Prince Holder).
Down the backstretch, Eddietwentynine continued to lead with Melmich getting closer and Avva Jaelyn (Roger Hewitt) in mid-pack. Turning for home it was still Eddietwentynine with the advantage as Aava Jaelyn started to gain ground under strong handling by Hewitt.
It took a while but Aava Jaelyn trained by Donovan Thompson gained full momentum in the last half furlong and was able to get in front to score over Eddytwentynine. Melmich finished third.
