KINGSTON, Jamaica - The fifth race on Saturday, March 18, 2023, is Division Two of a maiden three-year-old event in which nine are entered.

The Quick Galloper’s assessment is offered below in post-position order.

- CHARMING SOUND is a three-year-old grey filly by Midnight Hawk out of Naturally Mystical trained by Tensang Chung with Richard Lunan aboard. Has caught the eye at exercise with many watchers saying, Charming Sound is poised for a gallant effort.

- SLAM DUNK is a three-year-old bay colt (March 9) by Sensational Slam out of Akela trained by Gary Subratie with Dane Dawkins in the saddle. Another who has been progressing well in the mornings. Will give a good account of herself.

– DE LYE LA is a three-year-old bay filly (February 25) trained by Ian Parsard with Reyan Lewis aboard. Has flattered to deceive in her four starts to date. De Lye La has speed with four furlongs, the shortest trip she will ever run. It is now or never for this filly. Note, De Lye La races with the blinkers on, and cheek pieces on.

- KEM is a three-year-old chestnut colt (June 29) by Here Comes Ben out of Lost Springs trained by Gary Crawford with Calvin Bailey holding the reins. Will learn from this first run.

- CAPTAIN PHILIP is a three-year-old chestnut colt (April 8) by Hedge Fund out of Kandi With A K trained by Gary Griffiths with Oshane Nugent in the saddle. Coming along, but will have to wait based on word from the exercise watchers.

– MR. FETE is a three-year-old chestnut colt (April 9) trained by Anthony Nunes with Tevin Foster in the saddle. Did well on debut 13 days ago coming down the five straight course. Then, Mr. Fete had some equipment issues when the gates opened. With a smooth passage over a shorter distance, Mr. Fete is expected to have a prominent role in this one.

– ARIA’S REIGN is a three-year-old dark bay filly (April 8) by Resurgence out of Nuclear Waning trained by Steven Todd with Richard Henry in the saddle. Not too far behind on debut (March 5), and will benefit from this second excursion.

– SMOOTH AVIATOR is a three-year-old bay colt (March 23) by Casual Trick out of Classy Aviator trained by Jason DaCosta with Jerome Innis in the saddle. The experienced one in this contest with nothing to recommend his chance of winning.

- AVA’S SUNSHINE is a three-year-old bay filly (May 17) by Emperor Hall out of Toot The Blues trained by Norman Smith with Kiaman McGregor aboard. Needs time.
