Primal Fear - Shane Ellis
Primal Fear - Shane Ellis

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jockey Shane Ellis again showed why he is regarded as one of the best riders around at the Park with a telling display in the pigskin to triumph on Primal Fear in the Caymanas Tuesday ninth and final.

Trained by Al Brown, Primal Fear’s success was forged in a four-year-old and upwards (non-winners of three) going five furlongs round.

Crafty and Ready (Dick Cardenas) set the earlier splits, troubled for the start by Chitu Prince (Anthony Thomas).

Crafty and Ready won that battle to enter the lane with the lead while Ellis had Primal Fear behind in the middle of the track seeking space to challenge. When that space did not appear, Ellis changed course quickly moving Primal Fear to the inside rails and the bay gelding perked-up to get the win by less than a length.

Lava Boy (Tevin Foster) ran on strongly for second with Crafty and Ready third.
