KINGSTON, Jamaica – Nipster, the Horse of the Year for 2020 collapsed and died this morning (May 14) at his place of work – the race track - after pacing seven furlongs.
Bred by Michael Bernard, owned by Michros, and trained by Anthony Nunes, Nipster is best remembered for his victory as a three-year-old in the Classic Jamaica St Leger, his close second in the Jamaica Derby behind King Arthur, and his defining run, victory in the 8 ½ furlong Ian Levy Cup. That win in the Ian Levy Cup, against the best horses in training at the time, sealed the deal for Nipster to be chosen unanimously as the 2020 Horse of The Year.
