1000, 2000 Guineas set for 9th and 10th race day after resumption

THORNBIRD TROPHY

KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Racing Office of the promoting company of horse racing in Jamaica, Supreme Ventures Racing and Entertainment Limited (SVREL) has issued a 10 race meet projection once racing is allowed to return by the Government because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Due to efforts to curtail the spread of COVID-19 locally, racing was halted by SVREL on March 22 when both the Thornbird Stakes and the Prince Consort Stakes, the major prep races for the 1000 and 2000 Guineas respectively were scheduled to be contested.

Based on the 10-day projection, the 1000 Guineas is set to be run on race day number nine and the 2000 Guineas on race day number 10.

Intriguingly, it seems that both the Thornbird and the Prince Consort Stakes will not be run this year. Trainers will therefore have to find appropriate race (s) as their preps for the season’s first two Classic races.
