Reprieve for jockey Anthony Thomas – five-day suspension reduced to three, $20,000 fine cancelled

KINGSTON, Jamaica - On Tuesday, February 16, 2021 the Jamaica Racing Commission heard an appeal from Jockey Anthony Thomas submitted against the Stewards’ decision on 28th November, 2020 to suspend him for five (5) race days and impose a fine of Twenty Thousand dollars ($20,000.00).

The Commission viewed the film of the race and heard submissions from Attorney Jeffery Mordecai who represented Jockey Anthony Thomas, and Chairman of the Stewards’ panel Alicia Lindo.

They also noted Attorney Jeffrey Mordecai’s plea for leniency which he stated was in recognition of his client’s good behavior and track record. As a result the Stewards’ decision was varied as follows:

  • The fine of Twenty Thousand dollars was cancelled by the Commission.

  • The suspension period was reduced to three (3) race days, which takes effect on Saturday February 27, 2021.
