KINGSTON, Jamaica – Dane Nelson is surely but surely whittling away the difference between himself and leader Anthony Thomas in the 2020 jockey’s championship.

After partnering the Michael Marlowe trained Gambler to her maiden win in a condition event for three-year-olds travelling 7 ½ furlongs, Nelson reduced the deficit to eight as he completed a quick race two – race three double.

That was in the Caymanas Saturday (Nov 7) third, which saw Gambler releasing the maiden tag.

Gambler was behind the leaders for most of the way but gathered momentum leaving the three-furlong marker.

In the last two furlongs, it was a duel between Gambler and Zabratone (Nicholas Hibbert). The young apprentice Hibbert tried his best but the stronger and more experienced Nelson proved the better.

Gambler is trained by Michael Marlowe.
