KINGSTON, Jamaica -  The combination of five-year-old bay mare Portion running at odds of 3-2, jockey Roger Hewitt and trainer Leroy Tomlinson had the distinction of winning the first race of the 2021 season.

The victory by Portion was made easier following the late withdrawal of Top Gear and Vodka.

After the lead changed several times, this first New Year’s Day offering came down to a three-horse race involving Portion, Star Lee (Kerry-Gayl Robinson) and Moon (Matthew Bennett).

After a fierce battle in the final furlong and a half it was Portion who crossed the line first in front of Star Lee and Moon.

Portion was winning for the first time from 13 career starts.

The first Reggae-6 for the year sold $5.95 million.
